Persons with disabilities (PwDs) in India face discrimination and marginalization every day. Here at Manonandana Trust, a multi-disciplinary comprehensive rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged and children with multiple disabilities belonging to lower economic group. Lack of awareness and early identification of challenged children is another impediment. Parents are not entirely equipped to deal with such children. Families and society may not very supportive.
There is a need for trained faculty to identify, rehabilitate and create an inclusive atmosphere for overall development of child with special needs. Inclusion of special in society needs lot more efforts towards awareness and advocacy. That is what we have tried to do! We have touched the lives of over 1000 families over the past 25 years. Our present strength is 60 children. We are an 80G, 12 A and Registered Trust under Darpan and CSR1. The Special children in our centre belong to 3 major categories of multiple disability.
Mental Retardation with Cerebral Palsy, Autism; Attention deficit – hyperactivity. Most MR with CP children suffer with movement disorder. Around 50% of CP children may have IQ of a normal range but needs continuous efforts and exercises to maintain & improve their condition. Custodial Group (Severe Mental retardation). Child with significant deficit and limitations on adaptive functioning.

✔ Difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities.

✔ The ultimate goal of special education is integration or mainstreaming of learners with special needs into the regular school system and eventually in the community.
✔Also making them self reliant in daily activities and providing a means of livelihood, wherever possible and social support
